Introduction
The Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) sits at the Seattle Center at the foot of the Space Needle. It was spearheaded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen as a tribute to legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry, the building's shimmering metallic curves evoke a giant silver guitar and have been ranked by Forbes among the world's strangest buildings. Inside, MoPOP celebrates every facet of popular culture, with exhibits spanning rock, hip-hop, science fiction, horror cinema, video games and fantasy literature. Permanent installations include the Guitar Gallery with dozens of legendary instruments, the Sound Lab's interactive music stations, and exhibits on independent film and video game history. More than a museum, it is a temple to the creative spirit of pop culture, hosting live performances, film screenings and industry forums throughout the year.
