Introduction

Nuuanu Pali Lookout is located in Nuuanu Valley north of downtown Honolulu on Oahu, Hawaii, at an elevation of about 366 meters, and is one of the most historically important viewpoints in Hawaii. In 1795, King Kamehameha I defeated Oahu's defenders here, unifying the Hawaiian Islands. Legend says defeated Oahu warriors were driven off the cliff, giving the site its name "Pali" (cliff). The viewing platform offers 360-degree panoramic views of downtown Honolulu, Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, the Pacific coast, and the Koolau Mountains. Strong winds average 40-50 km per hour year-round, making it an excellent spot to experience Hawaii's unique climate and revisit its unification history.
