Introduction
The Philadelphia Museum of Art, located at the western end of Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is one of the largest art museums in the United States, founded in 1876 with the main building completed in 1928. This neoclassical-style grand building sits atop a hill overlooking downtown Philadelphia and City Hall. The museum's collection includes over 220,000 objects spanning 2,000 years of human art history, including European paintings, American art, Asian art, modern art, and arms and armor. The museum houses masterpieces by European masters such as Van Gogh's Sunflowers, Cezanne's Large Bathers, and Rembrandt's Self-Portrait, as well as numerous works by Thomas Eakins and Philadelphia artists. The 72 stone steps in front of the museum became world-famous through Sylvester Stallone's running scene in the film Rocky, making it Philadelphia's most iconic photo spot.
