Introduction

Opened in 1926, the Benjamin Franklin Bridge spans the Delaware River to link Philadelphia with Camden, New Jersey, and was once among the world's longest suspension bridges. Designed by renowned engineer Ralph Modjeski, its main span of 533 meters has cables hung like harp strings, with Art Deco towers anchoring either bank. Beyond a transportation artery, the bridge is a superb public space for Delaware River sunsets and the Philadelphia skyline. The pedestrian walkway, about 4 meters wide, takes 20-40 minutes to cross on foot or bike, with views of Independence Hall's dome, the Navy Yard, and river barges.
