West Thumb Geyser Basin
Introduction
West Thumb Geyser Basin, located in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, is one of the park's six major geyser basins, situated along the West Thumb of Yellowstone Lake. This geothermal area was formed by a volcanic eruption approximately 150,000 years ago, perfectly blending geysers, hot springs, and Yellowstone Lake views into one of the park's most distinctive geological landscapes. The famous Fishing Cone is a volcanic cone in the lake, named for early visitors who fished from it. Abyss Pool is the largest hot spring in the basin, with water temperatures reaching 73 degrees Celsius, displaying vibrant colors. West Thumb receives fewer visitors, offering a tranquil environment where visitors can appreciate both geothermal wonders and lake scenery, making it a rare peaceful spot in Yellowstone.
