Introduction

Cuyahoga Valley National Park, located between Cleveland and Akron in Ohio, is the only national park in the state, officially designated as a national park in 2000. The park extends 33 miles along the Cuyahoga River Valley, protecting a river once so polluted it caught fire, now restored to a vibrant natural oasis. The park features over 50 waterfalls, with Brandywine Falls being the most famous, cascading 60 feet down a rock wall. Visitors can ride the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad through the valley, hike or bike along the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail, and experience 19th-century American canal history. The park offers distinct scenery in every season, with autumn foliage being particularly spectacular, making it a rare natural retreat in the Midwest.
