Yellowstone River

Introduction

The Yellowstone River is the most important river in Yellowstone National Park and one of North America's longest undammed rivers. Flowing through the entire park, it features stunning canyons, waterfalls, valleys and wildlife along its course, forming a magnificent natural corridor through Yellowstone. The river is about 1,114 km long; its most spectacular section lies within the park. After flowing out of Yellowstone Lake near Fishing Bridge, it enters the breathtaking Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, where the river plunges over the magnificent Upper and Lower Falls, with yellow canyon walls glowing in the sun — one of Yellowstone's most iconic scenes. The river continues north through Hayden Valley, one of Yellowstone's prime wildlife-viewing areas where bison, elk, moose and grizzly bears roam. Further north it passes Fishing Bridge and other areas before leaving the park. Numerous viewpoints and trails along the way offer stunning river views. Exploring the Yellowstone River and its canyon, waterfalls and wildlife is a magnificent Yellowstone journey.
