San Diego Zoo Safari Park

Introduction

San Diego Zoo Safari Park is a large wildlife sanctuary and theme park under the San Diego Zoo. Spanning about 730 hectares (1,800 acres), it features open-range African savanna-style wildlife exhibits, the Africa Tram and rich animal species and conservation programs — one of Southern California's most popular wildlife destinations where visitors see hundreds of species in semi-natural settings. Adjacent to but much larger than the San Diego Zoo (in the city), the park's signature experience is the complimentary Africa Tram — an open-air tram ride through a vast African savanna where herds of giraffes, rhinos, antelope, ostriches and zebras roam freely beside the vehicle, like being on an African safari. The park also has Asian and Australian zones, a cheetah exhibit (with a paid "Cheetah Run" experience), bird shows, children's play areas and trails. Visiting the Safari Park for the Africa Tram and free-roaming African animals is an unforgettable Southern California wildlife experience.
