Cornell Fine Arts Museum

Introduction

The Cornell Fine Arts Museum on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park is one of the oldest art museums in the American Southeast and the only Florida museum with a permanent collection of European Old Master works. Founded by Rollins College in 1935 and moved to its Romanesque stone building in 1938 with later expansions, the collection spans more than 6,000 works from 14th-century Italian religious paintings to contemporary American abstraction. The most celebrated holding is the Alfred Thompson Brigg Memorial Collection of European paintings from the Renaissance to the 19th century, with works by Tiepolo, Rubens, Matisse, and Picasso. The museum also shows American modern prints, Orlando-area artists, and Rollins historical archives. With rotating exhibitions, lectures, and community workshops, it is a top cultural alternative to Orlando's theme parks.
