Harry P. Leu Gardens

Introduction

Harry P. Leu Gardens is located just north of downtown Orlando, covering approximately 50 acres of botanical gardens and historic estate. The gardens were donated to the city by former Orlando mayor Harry P. Leu in 1961, with history dating back to a mid-19th century cotton plantation. The gardens house the largest private plant collection in the southeastern United States, including over 40 varieties of rare camellias, tropical orchids, a rose garden, butterfly garden, and aromatic garden across multiple themed sections. Strolling through the gardens, visitors can admire century-old oak trees draped with Spanish moss, tranquil lakes, and meticulously maintained landscape designs. The gardens also preserve the historic 1880s estate building, Leu House Museum, allowing visitors to learn about Orlando's early agricultural history while enjoying the plants, making it a peaceful oasis within the city.
