Introduction
Wakamiya Oji is Kamakura's signature approach road, running straight south from Tsurugaoka Hachimangu to Yuigahama beach, about 1.8 km, the 'main axis' Minamoto no Yoritomo planned for the city. The raised 'Dankazura' path is lined with cherry trees and stone lanterns, pink in spring — Kamakura's 'omotesando'. Along it lie Hachimangu, Yukinoshita and Yuigahama; it is the stage for festivals like the Kamakura matsuri and a favourite for daily walks and cycling.
