Introduction
Yongjusa Temple stands on the southern slope of Mt. Hwasan near Suwon in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, and is one of the major temples of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. Its history reaches back to the Silla period, and it was extensively rebuilt in the 18th century by King Jeongjo in memory of his father, Crown Prince Sado, echoing the nearby royal tomb of Yungneung. The temple preserves a bronze bell designated as a national treasure along with other Buddhist relics, and its halls rise along the hillside in a quiet, wooded setting. It is a fine place to learn about Joseon-era filial piety and Buddhist culture and to stroll among old trees and mountain paths.
