Wachau Cultural Landscape

Introduction

The Wachau is a cultural landscape stretching about 36 km along the Danube in Lower Austria, between Krems and Melk, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is famed for steep vineyard terraces, medieval castles such as the Dürnstein ruins and Aggstein castle, the baroque Melk Abbey, and wine towns scattered along the banks.
