🌏 Destination Overview
Austria blends classical elegance with Alpine scenery. Vienna is the city of music, where the sounds of the Golden Hall and the splendor of Schönbrunn Palace are full of imperial echoes; Salzburg is Mozart's birthplace and a filming location for The Sound of Music; the lakeside town of Hallstatt is reflected in emerald waters, almost unreal in its beauty; Tyrol's snowy peaks are a paradise for outdoor activities and skiing. Balancing culture and nature, Austria is a romantic and relaxing Central European journey.

Weltmuseum Wien📍 Vienna
Inside the Hofburg's Neue Burg wing, the Weltmuseum Wien ranks among Europe's leading ethnographic museums, holding more than 200,000 objects from Asia, Africa, the Americas and Oceania. Its celebrity exhibit is the Aztec feather headdress known as the Penacho, often linked to Moctezuma and made of iridescent green quetzal feathers. After a major renovation the museum reopened in 2017 with galleries organised around cultural encounters, and audio guides partly voiced by Indigenous descendants confront the colonial origins of the collections head-on.

Palace of Justice (Vienna)📍 Vienna
Standing on Vienna's Ringstrasse, the Palace of Justice was erected between 1875 and 1881 and still houses Austria's Supreme Court. In July 1927 demonstrators set the interior ablaze after a controversial verdict, and the violent aftermath became one of the bloodiest episodes of the First Republic. Restored to full grandeur, the building opens its vast marble atrium to the public free of charge after a security check, and the café set into the gallery lets you drink coffee beneath statues of Justice and a towering skylight — an atmosphere found nowhere else in the city.

Bestattungs Museum📍 Vienna
Founded by Vienna's municipal funeral company in 1967 and relocated beside the Central Cemetery in 2014, the Funeral Museum uses roughly a thousand artefacts to trace the city's famously professional culture of death. Exhibits include a reusable coffin with a hinged floor from the era of Joseph II, bells and strings designed to guard against premature burial, and centuries of hearses, mourning dress and mourning jewellery. Vienna's dark humour about mortality is on full display, and the cemetery's tree-lined avenues make a fitting epilogue.

Römer Museum – Hoher Markt📍 Vienna
The Roman Museum at Hoher Markt sits directly on the officers' quarters of the ancient legionary fortress: from the first to the fifth century AD, Vienna's predecessor Vindobona guarded the Danube frontier with a garrison of up to six thousand men. Glass floor panels reveal the foundations of two senior officers' houses, their Roman underfloor heating plainly visible, while cases of pottery, coins, inscriptions and gaming dice rebuild daily camp life. Redesigned in 2012, light projections restore the broken walls before your eyes — the city's most vivid Roman primer.

Wagenburg📍 Vienna
How grandly did the Habsburgs travel? The Wagenburg answers inside Schönbrunn's former Winter Riding School, where more than a hundred court carriages, sedan chairs, sleighs and ceremonial harnesses are lined up. Highlights include Maria Theresa's gilded carousel coach, the black hearses that carried Habsburg state funerals, the custom-built child's carriage of Napoleon's son, and equipage linked to Empress Elisabeth. Most pieces keep their original paint and upholstery, and the on-site restoration workshop occasionally opens to reveal how these vehicles are kept alive today.

Heiliger Franz von Assisi📍 Vienna
Facing the Danube Canal on Mexikoplatz, this red-brick church was commissioned in 1898 to mark Emperor Franz Joseph's fifty years on the throne and completed in 1910 to designs by Victor Luntz. Its blend of Rhenish Romanesque and Gothic Revival sets it apart from Vienna's baroque skyline, and locals simply call it the Mexiko Church after the square. Standing at the foot of the Reichsbrücke, its twin towers frame one of the city's most-photographed riverside compositions; inside, stained glass and the organ survive intact, and weekday afternoons bring quiet local prayer.
