Mozarts Wohnhaus
Introduction
Mozart's Residence (Mozarts Wohnhaus) stands at Makartplatz 8 at the north end of Salzburg's old town, the house where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived with his family from 1773 to 1787 — the dwelling he used most during his mature creative years. The original building was damaged in WWII and rebuilt on site as a museum, displaying the period piano, letters, portraits and manuscript facsimiles that recreate the daily life and working environment of the musical prodigy in Salzburg. Compared with the Geburtshaus on Getreidegasse, the Wohnhaus focuses more on his adult family and social world. Steps away lie the Salzach river and Hohensalzburg Fortress, making it the first stop for music lovers on pilgrimage to Salzburg, the city of music.
