Römer Museum – Hoher Markt

Introduction
The Roman Museum at Hoher Markt sits directly on the officers' quarters of the ancient legionary fortress: from the first to the fifth century AD, Vienna's predecessor Vindobona guarded the Danube frontier with a garrison of up to six thousand men. Glass floor panels reveal the foundations of two senior officers' houses, their Roman underfloor heating plainly visible, while cases of pottery, coins, inscriptions and gaming dice rebuild daily camp life. Redesigned in 2012, light projections restore the broken walls before your eyes — the city's most vivid Roman primer.
