Introduction
The Namur Citadel crowns the hill where the Sambre meets the Meuse—one of Europe's largest star-shaped fortresses. Its defenses evolved from Roman and medieval origins through 17th-century Vauban-style rebuilding, with layered bastions stepping down the slope above the confluence.
