Introduction
The Parc du Cinquantenaire, known in Dutch as Jubelpark, lies in eastern Brussels and was laid out to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Belgian independence. Its centrepiece is a triumphal arch with flanking colonnades, designed by Gédéon Bordiau and completed by Charles Girault in the early twentieth century. The grounds contain several museums, including the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History, the Art & History Museum and Autoworld, as well as lawns, paths and play areas. Situated at the eastern end of the Rue de la Loi, it is served by metro and bus and pairs well with visits to the surrounding museums.
