Jardin de Antioquia

Introduction

Jardín — literally 'garden' — folds into the mountains of Antioquia, 3-4 hours southwest of Medellín by rural bus, and is widely considered the loveliest of Colombia's heritage pueblos. Its main plaza is ringed by saturated colonial houses whose ground-floor cafés and horseshoe-paved lanes feel unchanged in decades, watched over by the twin towers of the stone basilica. The surrounding hills hide coffee farms, waterfall caves and celebrated birding sites — a famous Andean cock-of-the-rock lek sits at the end of a mountain road. This is a town that treats slowness as a vocation, worth two or three days carved out of any Medellín itinerary.
