Introduction
Golden Lane is a quaint, fairytale-like alley inside Prague Castle, its row of colorful, tiny old houses like a scene from a storybook - one of the castle's most beloved and photogenic corners. Tucked against the castle's north wall, the lane is lined with 16th-century cottages - small, brightly colored (pink, yellow, blue, red), with low doors and windows, like toy houses for gnomes, quaint and cute. The name is said to come from goldsmiths (and alchemists) who once served the court. The most famous (No. 22, a blue cottage) was where the writer Kafka briefly lived and wrote. Today the cottages hold nostalgic shops, studios and tiny museums. Wandering this tiny, colorful lane is a relaxed, delightful part of a castle visit.
