Introduction
Rådhuspladsen is the public heart of central Copenhagen, Denmark, wrapped around the Neo-Gothic City Hall (Københavns Rådhus) completed in 1905. The square is famed for architect Martin Nyrop's native red-brick design; its 105 m tower crowned by a golden weathervane offers a city-wide view to the Øresund, while inside the entrance stand statues of Bishop Absalon, the city's founder, and of fairy-tale master Hans Christian Andersen — a favourite photo spot. Year-round the square hosts rallies, festivals and New Year's fireworks, the first place to feel Danish civic life and hygge.
