Introduction
Olavinlinna (Olof's Castle) stands on a small lake island in Savonlinna, built in 1475 and among the best-preserved medieval stone castles in the Nordic countries, its three towers guarding the old Finland–Russia border. In summer it hosts the world-famous Savonlinna Opera Festival, lake wind and arias echoing through stone. From the tower you see Saimaa's archipelago channels — the most epic frame of Finland's 'lake castle', and the classic start of a lake cruise.
