Introduction
The Ancient Theatre of Larissa is cut into the south slope of the Frourio (acropolis) hill and ranks among the largest surviving theatres in Greece, holding roughly ten thousand spectators at its height. Begun in the third century BC, it was later adapted for Roman spectacles, then buried for centuries before excavation and restoration from the twentieth century. Part of the semicircular seating and stage has been restored, and drama and music are performed here in summer. Entry is free; you can climb to the seats and look over the city and plain. Allow about an hour, combining it with the acropolis hill and old town.
