Introduction
Sverd i fjell — Swords in Rock — is one of Norway's most dramatic outdoor monuments: three bronze swords, around ten metres tall, driven deep into bedrock beside the Hafrsfjord. Unveiled by King Olav V in 1983, the memorial marks the Battle of Hafrsfjord of about 872 AD, after which Harald Fair-Hair united Norway into one kingdom.
