Cabo da Roca

Introduction
Cabo da Roca, located at the western end of the Sintra mountains in Portugal, is the westernmost cape of the European continent. At an elevation of about 140 meters, the cliff drops directly to the Atlantic Ocean, known as the end of the world. The cape features a red stone monument with a cross inscribed with the famous line by Portuguese poet Camoes: Here, where the land ends and the sea begins. Cabo da Roca is part of the Sintra World Cultural Heritage site. When the wind is strong, waves crashing against the cliff are magnificent; on clear days, the endless Atlantic stretches to the horizon. It is one of Portugal's most famous natural landmarks and a pilgrimage site at the end of the European continent, drawing visitors who seek to stand at the dramatic boundary between land and sea.
