Introduction
Toledo's Puerta del Sol stands on the western side of the old town. Built in the 14th century in Mudejar style, it is an important survival of the city's medieval walls. Built of brick and stone, it is mainly an arched structure with decorative brickwork above, showing a blend of Christian and Islamic building methods. Once one of the main entries into Toledo, it remains a striking historic landmark at the edge of the old town, its walls and towers together tracing the outline of the old city. Near a high point of the old town, it offers views beyond the walls. Not far from the San Martin bridge and San Juan de los Reyes, it suits a stop on an old-town walk.
