The Iglesia de San Andrés stands in Toledo's historic centre as a parish church blending Mudéjar, Gothic and Baroque elements, protected under Spain's Bien de Interés Cultural listing and within the 1986 UNESCO World Heritage old town. Its main doorway is the only Almohad-style portal in Toledo, with rare green-glazed ceramic columns and Visigothic capitals, beside a small funerary pilaster that recalls its former mosque. Inside, a single nave keeps a timber roof and honeycomb palm-rib vaulting at the crossing, and houses an altarpiece of some thirty panels by Juan de Borgoña and Antonio de Comontes. The church is believed to have been rebuilt after Alfonso VI's 1085 reconquest on a former mosque site, layering several styles over the centuries—a quiet witness to Toledo's 'City of Three Cultures'. Most unusually, its crypt preserves about 60 naturally mummified bodies, from infants to nobility and nuns, open to the public and making this modest church one of Toledo's most memorable, least-known sights. A 17th-century Baroque remodelling added the final decorative layer, and recent restorations revealed Visigothic reliefs and pilasters; each 30 November, the feast of St Andrew still marks the church's unbroken religious life. Compared with the crowded Cathedral or San Juan de los Reyes, San Andrés feels restrained and quiet—yet it is exactly where one can savour Toledo's layered, multi-civilisation architecture at ease. Admission is only a few euros and the church is an easy, rewarding stop on any old-town walking route. Take a moment in the side nave, where the play of low light on the brick Mudéjar arches best reveals the building's quiet, centuries-old character.

The most stunning, famous treasures inside include: the hugely luxurious main altarpiece made of gilded woodcarvings of many biblical scenes (a Gothic retablo); and a unique Baroque masterpiece called the 'Transparent Altar'—'El Transparente', an exquisite, complex Baroque sculpture and architectural work that cleverly uses skylight to create a stunning, beautiful sacred effect as if heaven's light pours down; besides, the cathedral holds rich art treasures (including works by El Greco, Goya and Titian), a splendid choir stall, and a precious treasury (with beautiful monstrances and more). San Martín Bridge is a grand, ancient medieval stone bridge spanning the Tagus in Toledo—a Gothic old bridge soaring over the deep Tagus gorge, linking the old city and the far bank; it is a witness to Toledo's history and defenses and a great place to enjoy the old city and river-valley scenery. Toledo's old city is wrapped on three sides by the winding Tagus River; historically, the bridges across the Tagus linking inside and outside the perilous hill city were vital passages and gateways. San Martín Bridge is one of Toledo's two famous medieval bridges across the Tagus (the other is the Alcántara Bridge). This grand, sturdy Gothic stone bridge was built in the Middle Ages, its several huge stone arches soaring over the deep Tagus gorge; at each end stands a sturdy defensive gate tower (as the city's gateway and fortification), majestic and antique, weathered over centuries—an important witness to Toledo's defensive history. Walking or standing on (or beside) San Martín Bridge, visitors can enjoy: the Tagus winding through the deep gorge below, the magnificent natural scenery on both banks, and part of the old city of Toledo rising on the hill above the river bend (from this angle you also see the charming interplay of old city and valley)—old bridge, deep gorge, river and old city interweave with a quaint, grand charm. In recent years, near San Martín Bridge a thrilling attraction has been added—a high zip line (Tirolina) flying over the Tagus gorge, and a glass walkway on the old bridge overlooking the deep gorge below—adding a different kind of fun and perspective. The Alcazar of Toledo crowns the highest point of the old city, looking down on the Tagus gorge and a sea of red rooftops on all sides. A fortress since Roman times and reshaped by Visigoths and Moors, it was rebuilt as a royal palace for Charles V in the 16th century, its four corner towers standing stern and symmetrical today. During the Spanish Civil War, Colonel Moscardo's 70-day siege defence in 1936 turned the Alcazar into a national symbol. Now it houses the Army Museum, with armour, weapons and historical displays, while the terrace offers THE panorama of Toledo and the river bend. The central courtyard is free; the museum is ticketed — and at dusk the golden city lights up below.

The Alcázar of Toledo is a square stone fortress on a cliff above the Tagus, where Roman, Visigothic and Arab layers pile up, and which later bore the grim memory of a Civil War siege. Now a military museum, its massive walls and central court still tell of power and endurance in this 'city of three cultures'.

The Greco Museum stands in Toledo's Jewish quarter, reconstructing the house where El Greco lived and worked, beside the church of Santo Tomé he helped decorate.
