Church of the Holy Ghost

Introduction
The Heiliggeistkirche stands right next to Bern's main station and is one of the largest Protestant churches in Switzerland. Its present three-aisled Baroque hall was rebuilt in the 1720s under a local master builder. Twisting white-and-green stone columns support the gallery, with elegant proportions and floods of light quite unlike the usual restrained Protestant interior. Sitting at the start of the old town's shopping street, it offers ten quiet minutes mid-shopping; if the organ or choir is rehearsing, you are in for an unexpected gift.

Any practical tips for visiting Church of the Holy Ghost?
Organ or choir rehearsals often run at midday; listen at the door before entering. Make it the first stop of an old-town walk, continuing along the arcades to the Zytglogge and cathedral.
