Introduction

Roughly two hours north of Antalya the road crests a final ridge and Eğirdir Lake opens out below — Turkey's fourth-largest freshwater lake, some 480 square kilometres of water cupped in the western Taurus. A long causeway links the lakeside town to Yeşilada island, where fishing villages and small guesthouses face two different shades of blue on either side of the road.
