Introduction
Clifford's Tower is the only surviving tower of York's old castle—a unique medieval stone tower on a mound, the core relic of York Castle and a heavy historical memory. On a mound in the old town, the only main remnant of York Castle (built by William the Conqueror after the Norman Conquest, later rebuilt in stone), the castle's symbol.
