Introduction
Wave Rock is near Hyden, about 340 km east of Perth, a granite wonder shaped like a giant wave, about 15 metres high and over 100 metres long, its wall curling outward and concave like a giant wave frozen at the moment of breaking. Its surface also shows ochre-red and grey-black streaks from minerals and rain erosion, estimated about 2.7 billion years old. This natural marvel is breathtaking and a signature inland wonder of WA. Nearby are Hippo's Yawn and Aboriginal rock-art caves. Because it is far, most go on a long day trip or with a tour, a classic stop on a WA outback self-drive.
