Introduction
Cadbury's chocolate factory at Claremont, on the Derwent River north of Hobart, has been one of the brand's most important southern-hemisphere production sites since it began operating in 1921. For decades the factory ran public tours and a discount chocolate shop and was a classic Tasmanian family outing, but public tours ceased around 2010 and visitors are no longer admitted inside. Today you can view the historic factory buildings and grounds from outside and learn about this chapter of industrial history; chocolate itself is best bought in central Hobart or from supermarkets and specialty shops around the state.
