Low Head is a small town on the eastern bank at the mouth of the Tamar River in northern Tasmania, about 5 km north of George Town and facing Bass Strait. It is home to Australia's oldest continuously operating pilot station (1843) and its neat pilot cottages, while the Low Head Lighthouse, built in 1833, is one of Australia's oldest lights still in use, flashing automatically every 5 seconds.
