La Perouse is a seaside district at Sydney's southern edge on the northern shore of Botany Bay. On 26 January 1788, French explorer the Comte de La Perouse landed here with the ships Astrolabe and Boussole, days after the arrival of the First Fleet; his expedition then sailed into the Pacific and vanished, making this the last known point of contact with the voyage.
