Introduction

The MacArthur Museum Brisbane is located in MacArthur Chambers (the former AMP Building) at the corner of Queen and Edward Streets in central Brisbane. During World War II, General Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in the South West Pacific Area, moved his headquarters to Brisbane on 20 July 1942 and operated from this nine-storey Edwardian building until November 1944. The museum reconstructs MacArthur's office; visitors can sit at the table where MacArthur and his staff planned their campaigns, and explore how Brisbane served as an Allied command hub from 1939 to 1945. Exhibits cover the Pacific war and its impact on the city.
