Introduction

Russell Square is a historic public green space in Perth's Northbridge district, between Aberdeen and James Streets, named after Lord John Russell, the British Secretary of State for Colonies and later Prime Minister. The park was set aside as a reserve in 1873 and, from the mid-1890s, was landscaped with fountains and gardens by Perth City Council's Parks and Garden Committee to form its present character.
