Introduction
Hyde Park Barracks Museum on Macquarie Street, Sydney, is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site. Designed by Francis Greenway and built in 1819, it began as barracks housing male convicts and later served as an immigration depot, asylum, courts and government offices. Today it is an immersive museum telling the stories of the thousands of men, women and children who were held or housed there, and of Aboriginal and colonial Australia.
