Heirisson Island
Introduction
Heirisson Island floats in the middle of the Swan River between East Perth and Victoria Park, a small wetland reserve close to the city. A fenced wildlife sanctuary in the western part of the island is home to a small group of western grey kangaroos, which often come to graze near the shore at dusk — a rare chance to see wild kangaroos without leaving the city. The island is covered with native grasses, reeds and trees, and is reached on foot, by bike or by car via the Causeway Bridge.
