Introduction

The Old Mill is one of Western Australia's oldest European landmarks, set on the South Perth foreshore overlooking the Narrows Bridge. It was built in 1835 and operated until 1859, producing up to 680 kg of flour a day at its peak. After operations ceased it served as a hotel, residence, wine saloon and poultry farm. In 1955, when a planned highway threatened to run through it, citizens and the WA Historical Society campaigned to save it, and it is now protected by the National Trust.
