Introduction

Christ Church St Laurence is an Anglican church known for its Anglo-Catholic tradition, near Central station and Railway Square where Pitt and George streets converge. Designed by Henry Robertson around 1840 and consecrated in 1845, it is among Sydney's oldest churches. Celebrated colonial architect Edmund Blacket completed the interior and the tower and spire in the 1840s-1880s, the ceiling was added and columns clad in 1864, and stained glass was installed progressively from the 19th century. The interior is grand with a strong Gothic Revival character and a deep musical tradition.
