Pretoria Botanical Gardens

Introduction

Pretoria Botanical Gardens is an important plant conservation and education base in the South African capital region, covering about 76 hectares in the hilly northern suburbs of Pretoria. The garden displays the rich native plants of Gauteng and South African highland regions, particularly famous for its collection of native trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants. The garden has multiple themed areas, including a native arboretum, medicinal plant area, tropical glasshouse and ecological wetland. The most famous features are the South African national flower King Protea collection and the spring wildflower spectacle, making it an excellent place to view South African native flowers. It is also home to rich birdlife and butterflies, making it an ideal place for leisure, nature education and ecological photography.
