Grenen

Introduction

Grenen, just beyond the small town of Skagen at the tip of Jutland, is Denmark's true land's end. Here the Kattegat meets the Skagerrak head-on: two seas of different density and colour collide in a visible line of white water — the Battle of the World's Ends — where you can literally stand with a foot in each sea. A 1963 bucket-style lighthouse marks the shifting sandbar at the point. In spring and summer, seals haul out on the shallows to sun themselves, unbothered by cyclists and walkers. The Skagen Painters chased this very light in the 19th century; today you follow the dune path step by step to Denmark's northernmost point.
