First Church of Otago
First Church of Otago stands on Moray Place in central Dunedin and is one of the city's most recognisable historic buildings. Designed by architect Robert Lawson and completed in 1873, it is a Gothic Revival church whose main spire rises about 56 metres, long the highest point on the Dunedin skyline. The stone walls, pointed windows and steep roof express a strong Presbyterian tradition, echoing the city's Scottish origins. Inside, the lofty nave, stained glass and timber vaulting create a calm, solemn atmosphere, and the church still hosts worship and musical performances. It lies within walking distance of the Octagon and Dunedin Railway Station, making it an easy stop on a central heritage walk.
