Nîmes Travel Guide

France's most Romanesque city, where a 2,000-year-old temple and arena blend ancient heritage with modern life.

📍 Destination Overview

Nîmes preserves some of Europe's richest Roman remains; its first-century Maison Carrée survives almost intact, called the 'Athens of Rome', and the amphitheatre, seating 24,000, still hosts bullfights and concerts. Above the Gardon gorge soars the Pont du Gard, a 49-metre tiered aqueduct and UNESCO site. Its southern lanes and Provencal sunshine give the city a distinct Gallic charm.
