📍 Destination Overview
Jaco is the liveliest surf town on Costa Rica's central Pacific coast, about 1.5-2 hours' drive from the capital San Jose, and a popular hub for ocean-season travellers and backpackers. The main beach has fine sand and learner-friendly waves, while the town's restaurants, surf schools and bars turn buzzing after dark. Around it there is no shortage of activities - ziplining, waterfall jumps, horse riding, ATV tours, sport fishing and kite surfing. About 30 km north lies Carara National Park, one of the best places in Costa Rica to spot wild scarlet macaws.

The best window is the dry season, Dec–Apr: 22–32°C with little rain and plenty of sun—peak season for surfing and beach holidays on the Pacific coast. May–Nov is the wet season, with frequent but mostly evening thunderstorms.
