Sweden's southernmost port city, the twisting Turning Torso and the Oresund Bridge, old town and modern districts blended.

📍 Destination Overview

Malmo, Sweden's third-largest city at the southernmost tip, faces Copenhagen across the Öresund, linked by the 2000 bridge that makes it Sweden's gateway to continental Europe. Its landmark is the Turning Torso, a skyscraper twisting 90 degrees over the Western Harbour. Old-town squares and Malmo Castle recall centuries of shifting hands between Denmark and Sweden.

Stortorget and City Hall
No.1 Malmo
Stortorget and City Hall
Malmö's Stortorget is the city's main square; its Neo-Gothic City Hall was designed by Helgo Zettervall in the 1860s, with a commanding clock tower and façade. Surrounded by old buildings and cafés, the square is the heart of civic gatherings, markets and festivals — the starting point for reading the order and character of this sea-and-land city.
Square & Landmark
Turning Torso
No.2 Malmo
Turning Torso
Turning Torso rises about 190 m across 54 floors, designed by architect Santiago Calatrava and completed in 2005; for years it was the tallest building in Scandinavia. Its nine cubic segments twist nearly 90 degrees from base to top like a dancing sculpture — a symbol of Malmö's Western Harbour renewal and of contemporary Swedish landmark architecture.
Square & Landmark
Oresund Bridge
No.3 Malmo
Oresund Bridge
The Öresund Bridge is a ~16 km combined road and rail link opened in 2000, joining Malmö in Sweden with Copenhagen in Denmark. From Malmö a cable-stayed bridge crosses the sea, dives into an artificial island and continues as a tunnel — the most visible symbol of Nordic integration and the daily commute 'to Copenhagen on the other side'.
Square & Landmark
Malmöhus Castle
No.4 Malmo
Malmöhus Castle
Malmöhus is one of Northern Europe's best-preserved Renaissance castles, rebuilt from an older fortress by King Christian III in the 16th century and still ringed by moats and thick walls. Today it houses the Malmö Museum and Malmö Art Museum: natural history, city history, a small aquarium and Nordic art all share one roof. Outside, the castle and Kungsparken greenery make this the spot where Malmö locals picnic and push prams on weekends.
Historic Ruins & Heritage
Ribersborgsstranden
No.5 Malmo
Ribersborgsstranden
Ribersborgsstranden is Malmö's favourite city beach — a long stretch of sand just a fifteen-minute bike ride from the centre, free and open all year. At the end of a wooden jetty stands the Ribersborg Kallbadhus, an open-air bathhouse from 1898 where the classic ritual is a hot sauna followed by a plunge into the Öresund. On clear days the sweep of the Öresund Bridge to Denmark traces the horizon, and the evening light here is famously beautiful.
Beach & Island
Swedbank Stadium
No.6 Malmo
Swedbank Stadium
Known since 2020 as Eleda Stadion, this ground — originally Swedbank Stadium — is the home of Malmö FF, Sweden's most successful football club. Opened in 2009 with room for more than 20,000 spectators, it has hosted Champions League and Europa League nights that shake the stands. On non-match days, guided tours of roughly an hour take you through the dressing rooms, the players' tunnel and the press room, offering a genuine taste of Nordic football culture.
