Cathedral of St. Elizabeth
The Cathedral of St. Elizabeth is the largest church in Slovakia, its Gothic mass rising at the end of Kosice's Main Street since the late fourteenth century. The soaring nave and tall north tower define the city skyline, while inside rests the tomb of Ferenc Rakoczi II, the Hungarian prince who led the uprising against the Habsburgs. The north chapel holds a copy of the Scala Sancta of Turin. Climbing the tower rewards you with the old town's colourful rooftops, and the floodlit cathedral beside the singing fountain is Kosice's loveliest evening scene.

The Miklus Prison Museum hides inside a medieval building in Kosice's old town, which served for centuries as a prison and courthouse and is now run by the East Slovak Museum. It is small enough to see in half an hour, ideal as part of a walking route with the Main Street and St. Elizabeth's Cathedral, and genuinely rewarding for anyone interested in legal history or offbeat museums.

Standing in the middle of the avenue, St. Elisabeth Cathedral (built in the 14th–15th centuries) is the largest church in Slovakia and the easternmost grand Gothic cathedral in Europe - the city's landmark.
