Museo Amparo, in a colonial building in Puebla's historic center, is among Mexico's foremost art and culture museums, presenting Mexican art from pre-Columbian through colonial to modern eras, with sculpture, painting and manuscripts.

Calle de los Dulces (Candy Street) in Puebla's historic centre is a short street devoted to the city's convent sweet-making tradition, right beside the Santa Clara church. Family-run shops line both sides, their windows stacked with camote (candied sweet-potato rolls), jamoncillo nut fudge, candied squash and brightly coloured crystallised fruit. Puebla's dessert repertoire traces back to colonial convent kitchens, and this is where those recipes are still sold over the counter.

Puebla Cathedral is among Mexico's most magnificent churches, beside the Central Plaza, its twin towers the tallest church bell towers in Mexico. This stone building blending Renaissance and Baroque took over a century to build—solemn and grand outside. Inside, lavish decoration and a gilded main altar amaze, with fine sculpture, painting and organ. As the faith core of this World Heritage city, the cathedral is weighty and sacred. The Zócalo of Puebla (also the Constitution square) is the centre of this World Heritage colonial city, enclosed by the cathedral, the city hall and arcaded colonial buildings. Known for its greenery and musical fountain, it fills at dusk with strolling, music-listening citizens — the place to feel Puebla's unhurried, 'Angelopolis' character.
