Garni Travel Guide

Garni, an Armenian town, is famed for its 1st-century Greco-Roman temple and monastery.

📍 Destination Overview

Garni, a village in Armenia's Kotayk Province about 30km from Yerevan, perches on a cliff above the Azat River. Its 1st-century Temple of Garni, Armenia's only Greco-Roman pagan shrine to the sun god Mithra, has nine Corinthian columns against Mount Ararat's snow peak. Nearby Geghard Monastery, partly carved from rock and once holding the spear that pierced Jesus, is a UNESCO site.
