Introduction

Montreal's Notre-Dame Basilica is one of Canada's most famous and beautiful churches, by Place d'Armes in the old city, completed in 1829 and among North America's earliest Gothic Revival buildings. Its exterior is solemn and grand; what truly amazes is the interior—a deep cobalt-blue vault dotted with golden stars, intricate woodcarving, stained glass and gilded decoration glowing in the dimness, creating a sacred yet dreamy atmosphere; the grand organ is among the largest outside Europe. This is also where Céline Dion's wedding was held. At night the church hosts an immersive light show called "AURA". This blue-and-gold sanctuary is a Montreal treasure not to be missed.
